A Salute to Sidelaunchings – A tribute to The Collingwood Shipyards

2011 | History | 20 pages

A Salute to Sidelaunchings, by Canadian writer-photographer, George Czerny, tells the story, through historic photographs, of unique sidelaunchings at the now-closed Collingwood Shipyards.

A powerful splash

This industry was the economic backbone of the Collingwood and district community for 103 years. This 20-page book draws 20 photographs, some in colour, some in black and white, from George Czerny’s previous book, “The Collingwood Shipyards”, which provides more photographs, as well as many stories, about this shipyards which closed in 1986. The author considers both books will keep the shipyards’ memory alive and be a tribute to the women and men who worked at the Collingwood Shipyards. A Salute to Sidelaunchings features photographs, most of them in colour, which can never be taken again, as well as aerial views of the shipyards; as that area of Collingwood (Ontario, Canada) harbour looked like back then and now. A Salute to Sidelaunchings is a small book, but it makes a powerful splash – so to speak – with its excellent photographs.
